Our vision, mission and values

Portrait of educational assessors at a workshop

Our vision is to be the leading professional body for the assessment community, representing members in dealings with all relevant stakeholders, including government and the media as well as the general public.

"We have a teaching profession and we have examiners. Each has a role in maintaining standards, yet one has a formal identity while the other exists in its shadow. With the formation of the Institute, we have the chance to recognise and encourage examining and examiners for their important role" - Dr. Neill Day, Senior Examiner

Our mission

The Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors is an independent professional body committed to improving the quality of assessment for the benefit of assessors, learners and society.

Our values

We are committed to maintaining the following values in everything we do:

  • Be professional in the way in which we conduct ourselves on behalf of our members.
  • Be supportive in helping members of the assessment community to develop their skills, knowledge and capability in good assessment practice.
  • Engage with others by seeking to build partnerships with which to develop our impact on assessment.
  • Be open to the needs of the assessment community and the way we engage with our customers.
  • Be confident in our approach to the needs of our members, and the way in which we provide products and services that best meet their needs.
