The third and final part of the CIEA pilots for the CEA programme was held in Kensington, London on 23rd. and 24th. September. A total of 20 participants was invited to attend the event, although family circumstances and illness prevented some from attending. Finally, 12 candidates were chosen to progress to the next stage and develop their portfolios

Applications

The format was similar to the previous two events, with a letter of application used as the basis on which to invite participants. The event had been highlighted in early summer by the Association for School and College Leaders (ASCL) in their newsletter. Participants were asked to outline their previous involvement in the five processes of assessment:

Preparing for assessment
Conducting assessment
Feeding back after assessment
Managing others
Managing yourself

The Kensington Event

This particular event was aimed specifically at the secondary sector. CIEA staff members outlined the role this particular event would play in the pilot strategy and the interest this development has received from both this country and from abroad. A visitor from South Africa was an observer of the event. Participants were placed in separate groups, members of which stayed together for the two days. Since this is both a training and assessment event, it was made clear to the delegates that they would be continuously assessed, with their knowledge, skills and understanding of the underlying principles of assessment put to the test, as was the way each individual worked with others

Delegates focused on the secondary sector and will be developing their portfolios based upon actions in their own institutions

Evaluations

Finally, delegates were asked to complete an evaluation sheet, the results of which can be found below
