Assessment Skills Accreditation
The CIEA is working with the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) to support teachers' Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements, in response to requests from members. AQA is offering support for teachers who wish to become more closely involved in improving assessment practices in Key Stage 3 English.
There will be two courses on offer: getting started with Assessing Pupils' Progress (APP) and Co-ordinating APP. "Getting Started" is aimed at those teachers with little or no knowledge of APP. "Co-ordinating APP" is aimed at those English teachers in secondary schools who have some knowledge of APP and will provide guidance on how to develop effective policies at Key Stage 3 and develop effective assessment practice. Teachers attending these courses will have the opportunity to become affiliate members of the CIEA and enjoy full member benefits as well as access to all the materials on the website.
In addition, there will be the opportunity for those attending the "Co-ordinating APP" course to secure recognition of their skills if they successfully implement a moderation procedure in their institution. To be successful they must implement effective standardisation and moderation procedures within their schools, feedback effectively to team members, develop effective teams of assessors within their department and manage their time effectively. These skills reflect four of the five strands of the Professional Framework for Assessment. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to apply for full Member status.
