New Assessment for Learning (AfL) Strategy - Quality Standards Tool

The CIEA has developed, with the DCSF and National Strategies, a quality standards tool that enables schools to review their progress in implementing AfL with APP.

How does the tool work?

Click here to access the tool

For each statement, click on the exemplification materials for your phase - primary or secondary. A box will open that describes each of the standards. Choose the statement that best fits your circumstances. Close the exemplification box by clicking OK. Enter your school's status by clicking the appropriate radio button. Follow this procedure for each of the standards statements.

When you have completed all the statements, click submit and the tool will automatically give you a printable version of the RAGG status of your school.

We advise that you revisit the tool periodically to evaluate how you are progressing against your initial evaluation.

CIEA and AQA partner to offer accredited CPD

The CIEA is working with the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) to support teachers' Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements, in response to requests from members.

AQA is offering support for teachers who wish to become more closely involved in improving assessment practices in Key Stage 3 English.

There will be two courses on offer:

Getting started with Assessing Pupils' Progress (APP) is aimed at those teachers with little or no knowledge of APP

Co-ordinating APP is aimed at those English teachers in secondary schools who have some knowledge of APP
