Training and  events - The CIEA can offer your school, college or consortia regionally-delivered  training to fit the internal assessment roles identified as part of the requirements of the Diploma - that of Lead and Domain Assessor.

As a National Support Partner of the Diploma we can help you deliver effective internal assessment in your school, college or consortium.

Our accredited training and support programme will enable the Lead and Domain Assessor roles to be carried out effectively and will develop and improve internal assessment-related knowledge, skills and capability ensuring your place of learning  delivers consistent and fit for purpose assessments that meets your learner's needs. The training will cover the requirements for internal assessment, effective assessment setting, developing an assessment policy for your consortia as well as implementing standardisation and moderation procedures that will meet the requirements of the Diploma.

Why take part in the training?

The roles of both Lead and Domain Assessors are critically important to the effective delivery of the Diploma within your consortium. The CIEA is able to provide you with the appropriate level of training and support to enable you to develop your knowledge and understanding of good assessment practice.

A Lead Assessor - is responsible for quality assuring the process of assessment across different lines of learning within a consortium to ensure a consistent approach to the application of internal assessment.

A Domain Assessor - has overall responsibility for all the internal assessment work that takes place within a particular line of learning.

Unlike most training providers our help and support does not end when you complete the course. As THE professional membership organisation for assessment professionals we are in a unique position to be able to offer continued help and support via our dedicated Diploma Good Practice section of our website, containing internal assessment-specific:

Who should take part in the training?

We have listed below the types of roles that relate to both the Lead and Domain assessor training so that you can make a judgement as to which training course would best be suited to your needs:

Lead Assessor
Assessment Coordinator,
Curriculum Manager, Assessment
Manager, Local Authority 14-19
Coordinator and Manager,
Consortium Management Team,
Members of the Senior Leadership team in the school or college.

Domain Assessor

Who will deliver the training?

The CIEA has a network of trainers who are experts in the field of educational assessment. All of the trainers are qualified Chartered Educational Assessors with experience of working in a wide variety of educational assessment  environments, including the diploma.

What recognition will I gain following successful completion of the training?

Following the completion of the training and a successful submission of a portfolio, you will be accredited as a Fellow of the CIEA if you complete the Lead Assessor portfolio, or a Member of the CIEA if you complete the Domain Assessor portfolio through the . You will  be able to use the Lead and Domain assessor portfolio as evidence to achieve Fellow or Member status of the CIEA.

If you are interested in taking part in the training then please email us at diplomaassessment@ciea.org.uk stating your name, consortia, local authority, school/college name, type of training required, and number of delegates who wish to attend the training.
How much will the training cost?

CIEA members (corporate and individual) automatically receive a third off the total cost of training.

Individual members also receive a free membership upgrade to Fellow or Full Member status.
