Good Practice Information and Advice

the Diploma

Good practice information and advice - This section of the website provides your school, college or consortium with information and advice relating to the internal assessment components of the Diploma.

If you are responsible for delivering the internally assessed components of a diploma you will be aware that there are significant challenges ahead.

The majority of principal learning units and all projects are internally assessed, so there is a real need for ensuring consistency of practice across all centres within your consortium to ensure you deliver reliable and valid assessments for your students.  That can be achieved by developing and implementing relevant policies and procedures to underpin robust quality assurance covering all aspects of assessment practice.

Your key challenges related to internal assessment are likely to include:

  • Understanding the consortium history, background and/or ethos
  • Developing the capacity of the consortium
  • Ensuring consistency of assessment within the consortium
  • Managing the configuration of the structures of the consortium and its geography
  • Building upon good assessment practice already taking place
  • Utilising staff expertise and getting to grips with domain and lead assessor roles/responsibilities
  • Developing shared understanding within teams and across centres
  • Developing and maintaining effective communication channels
  • Tailoring systems to meet local needs
  • Recruiting skilled staff
  • Developing and delivering effective standardisation and moderation procedures
